Our Inhabitants
The Cardaes Convent is the only museum in Lisbon that is inhabited. The Nossa Senhora Consoladora dos Aflitos Association welcomes and cares for women with special needs, aged 18 and over, usually referred by other institutions or by family members. The Cardaes Convent is their real family home. Here they live, here they are guaranteed the basic conditions of food, hygiene, medication and health care, clothing and, most of all, they have the joy, comfort, well-being and a lot of affection so that they can be happy people integrated into this world. We also provide them with a range of activities that are compatible with their disability - sports, culture and leisure, outdoor activities, which stimulate their physical-sensory abilities with a view to developing skills that allow them to make small gains in their autonomy and socialization.
